Hello and welcome! My name is Mary Lou Resendes, the School Counselor.
Middle school is a very exciting, yet challenging time in an adolescents’ life and for everyone involved. Because of this, there are a variety of counseling services needed in the middle school setting.
As the counselor at GEMS, my purpose is to provide students with access to professional support in the domains of academic, career, and personal/social development. Students have the opportunity to be seen individually and/or in groups. They may self-refer by completing a counseling request form and dropping it off in the School Counselor’s mailbox that is located adjacent to the main office. There are times when students will need to drop in, as well. Parents and teachers can also refer students for counseling services by contacting the counseling office via email (firstname.lastname@example.org) and/or phone (916-645-6370). Referrals are made to community agencies, as appropriate. At GEMS, all staff members work together with parents and the community, to create a caring and supportive environment where young adolescents are encouraged to achieve overall wellness for academic success.
